MYOB Accounting, MYOB AccountEdge or MYOB AccountRight

Accounting Index

Before importing MYOB Accounting, MYOB AccountEdge or MYOB AccountRight files into Working Papers, you must access the program and use the Export module to create an export file. Working Papers can import the trial balance and full general ledger detail or the trial balance with opening entries.

Add default foreign exchange rate type for newly created accounts during all imports.

Previously, only ASCII import and AccountView import set the exchange rate type for new accounts. No other imports ever set this attribute to new accounts.

Now add default exchange rate type according to account type:

What do you want to do?

To import the text file into Working Papers:

  1. Open the Working Papers client file to which you want to import.
  2. From the File menu, select Import | Accounting Software.
  3. From the Import From drop-down, select MYOB Accounting, MYOB AccountEdge or MYOB AccountRight.
  4. From the Version drop-down, select the version that you want to import.
  5. In the Import Path field, type or select the exact path to the export file. Use the Browse button to locate the file manually.
  6. Under Import Components, choose to import either the Trial Balance or the full General Ledger Detail.
  7. Select the Import Client Information check box, if applicable.
  8. If importing the trial balance for a single period, fill in the period number under Use specific period.

When importing trial balance amounts, this option imports the balance amounts into the specified period as year-to-date balances. Existing opening or other period balances are not overridden. With this option not selected, balances are imported into the opening balance column. The specific period applies only to the current year balances; all prior year and budget balances import regardless of period.

When importing General ledger details, if you specify a period, only those journal entries dates in the specific period are imported. With no specific period indicated, opening balances and all transactions come in.

Note: Account properties are brought in as part of the import.

  9. In the Select File field, type or select the export file name, which must have a .txt extension.
  10. If applicable, select the Set accounting period to yearly check box. When importing yearly, the option to set a specific period to import into is disabled.
  11. If applicable, select the Use dash for separator check box. This check box allows the user to choose between '-' and '_' for use as separator in the account number, e.g., 1-1100 versus 1_1100.
  12. By default, budget data is included in the import process. To prevent the import of budget data, select Exclude budget data.

By default, prior year data is included in the import process. To import current year data only, select Exclude prior year data.

By default, the GIFI column is included in the import process. To prevent the import of GIFI data, select Skip GIFI data.

  13. Select either Monthly or 13 Period as your MYOB, AccountEdge, or AccountRight file period setting.
  14. Click OK to process the import.
