About the modes of CaseView

There are two modes in CaseView: the Form Mode and the Design Mode. Each mode has its own pull-down menu and Command bar. In addition, the Design Mode has a Style bar, as this is the mode where editing tasks are allowed. Form Mode can be further enhanced by turning on the enable editing function.  

When a new document is created, it opens in Design Mode by default. Other documents open in the mode specified in the document settings. To access the Document Settings dialog, click File | Document Settings, and then Mode Customization. This setting can be changed only while in Design Mode.

The Design Mode

Use the Design Mode to define the contents and layout of the document. The techniques outlined in the Help to guide through the many tasks that may be accomplished while in the Design Mode. If creating a document from scratch, or are making structural changes to an existing template, the document should start in Design Mode.

The Design Mode provides the user with a variety of tools to create and customize the CaseView document.

Click the Editing button images\pencil_tool_shg.gif [#1], or use F6, to toggle between the current mode and the last accessed mode. This icon will be unavailable if only one mode is available to the user. Document and permission settings may need to be adjusted if mode toggling should be available and is not.

Click the Lock button images\lock_icon_shg.gif [#2] to prevent further access to the active mode.

Use the Style bar [#3] in Design Mode to apply formatting to the paragraphs and text.

Use the Equation bar [#4] to enter calculations or conditions.

Use the horizontal ruler [#5] to set tab markers and tab indents.

Review special attributes for lines in the document such as paragraph styles and skip conditions in the Style Window [#6]. It also displays page attributes like headers and footers.

Use the scroll bar [#7] to view parts of the document not currently visible.

See information about the active document or the selected command in the Status bar [#8].

To switch to the Form Mode, on the View menu, select Form Mode.

The Form Mode

In the Form Mode, it is possible to enter data into input cells and print the document. The Form Mode is designed specifically for users of the software who are providing completion information to a document. Therefore, functions of the Form Mode are restricted to minor modifications assuming the basic template for the document is already developed. For information pertaining to the specific features available in the Form Mode, please refer to the section on Using the Form Mode.

Click the Editing button images\pencil_tool_shg.gif [#1], or use F6, to toggle between the current mode and the last accessed mode.

Click the Show skipped text button images\show_skipped_tool_shg.gif [#2] to display text that will skip when printing.

When entering a document for the first time, unless the designer has specified differently, it will open in the Form Mode. To access the Design Mode, click the pencil icon (the Design Mode tool) on the Command toolbar. If the Design Mode has been locked, a prompt will appear for the appropriate password.

Form Mode with Enabled Editing

If the user has the proper permissions granted, enabling editing can be accessed from the Form Mode by selecting Enable Editing on the View menu. Permissions are set up by the designer in Design Mode. The options are available to the user can be specified by the designer on the File menu, by selecting Document settings and then clicking the Document Security tab and the Mode customization tab.

In the Form Mode with enable editing turned on, the user has access to an enhanced interface including access to the formatting, style and cell functions.
