Before importing BankLink files into Working Papers, it is necessary to access the BankLink program and use the Export module to create an export file. Working Papers can import bank transactions as general ledger detail for an existing client without changing its opening balances or overwriting existing journals.

What BankLink files are required:

To export the trial balance with full general ledger detail from the BankLink file

Before exporting from BankLink, while in BankLink, access the "Data Entry" menu and choose "code entries". For each bank transaction, select an account that the transaction should be posted to.

  1. While in BankLink, access the Other Functions menu, select Accounting System and then choose Working Papers as the system used.

  2. From the Other Functions menu, select Extract data.

  3. Select the From and To dates and the File name for the exported data.

  4. Select the folder in which to place the Export file and then click OK.

To import the text file into Working Papers

  1. Open the Working Papers client file to which you want to import.

  2. On the File menu, select Import, and then Accounting Software.

  3. In the Import From box, select BankLink.

    The Version box defaults to 5.0, as this is the only version currently supported. The General Ledger Detail is imported by default.

  4. Select the Import Client Information check box to import engagement properties such as name, address, and contact information from the import file.

  5. In the Import ASCII file box, type or select the BankLink export file name that you exported above. Use the Browse button to locate the file manually.

  6. Click OK to process the Import.
